We touch many lives because of generous gifts from supporters like you. Thanks to your support, the hepatitis B virus is no longer a silent killer in our communities. Your willingness to support our health screening and education work saves lives. We are able to find community members with chronic hepatitis B and help them get the health care they need before their infection progresses to liver cancer or worse.
APCA’s Strong Women Healthy Families program partnered with the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI) to convene a Summit on Women and Families. You support of our programs and advocacy helped to deepen our collective understanding of the issues and challenges faced by AAPI women and families in Arizona.
APCA helped launch A Community of Contrasts demographic report on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Arizona and other western states. This report shows that AAPIs are the fastest growing segment in Arizona and make significant economic contributions through job creation and consumer spending. The report also shows that despite these success parts of our communities are still struggling.
When APCA learned that diabetes was the new silent killer stalking Asian Americans, we took action. APCA partnered with state and national organizations to host the 2015 Arizona Diabetes Summit Asian Community Implications. The summit presented cutting edge research on diabetes and the new screening guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and the American Diabetes Association.
We continue to be a strong voice in Arizona. Policymakers and government agencies turn to us to better understand the impact of health policies on our communities and we bring community voices and stories to them. APCA convenes and leads cross-cultural coalitions with a common vision to serve and empower communities of color in Arizona. We empower our communities and support their advocacy.
Our vision at APCA is to inspire diverse communities to secure healthier futures. If you would like more information about APCA, please feel free to contact me. I am always available to join you at one of our events and would love the opportunity to meet and answer any questions you may have.
